Hi red1, Time to finish this doc eh? I started reviewing and have some suggestions.

OVERVIEW & INTRO The inclusion of ERP & SCM etc in the first paragraph seems a little much a little quick ... I was thinking to replace it with something simpler like:

Overview This purpose of this Charter is to describe the Adempiere Project in terms of a project overview, code of conduct, and management of the project management.

Introduction The Adempiere Project is a community based open source software development project, dedicated to providing its members with a quality, fully featured, and freely available suite of Business applications aimed at the Small to Medium Enterprises (SME).

But then I was thinking to make us stand out what about bringing Mike Judds ideas on ERP2 to differentiate us?

CONCEPT Now I know this is something you feel stromgly about red1, but ... "the spirit of Open Source as to uphold the Bazaar model in stark contrast to the Cathedral model which was the direction the original project was driven to." Is it because of the "spirit" of the open source that we choose the Bazaar or is it because we believe what C&B says the only way to quality code is via the bazaar! ? I prefer the quality route as it does not comes down to any "believe" but rather a matter of fact... so we should be able to appeal to more even those that might not be so "sharing" orientated as ourselves. that's it for now... Colin, i agree your better arrangement above. About concept, ERP2 hmm, shuld that b 4 the roadmap? About quality, agree. Its the question of which is first - soul or brain cells? Perhaps u sneak in that key word, hmm, without losing the poetry? :) Red1 01:41, 3 October 2006 (BST)

Red1 here is my proposal .. I think I say what you do jsut in a different order! I will fix the formatting when the content is agreed. Overview The purpose of this Charter is to describe the Adempiere Project in terms of a project overview, code of conduct, and management.

Introduction The Adempiere Project is a community based open source software development project, dedicated to providing its members with a quality, fully featured, and freely available suite of Business applications aimed at the Small to Medium Enterprises (SME).

Concept The community and the code based for this project originated in the Compiere ERP/CRM project on SourceForge. However, the Adempiere Project differs in one pivotal factor from Compiere and similar business applications; its community believes that the best approach to producing an application, of sufficient quality to which a company would entrust its business, is in an Open Source project that follows the Bazaar model - as presented in Eric Raymond's famous article The Cathedral and the Bazaar. The Community of end-users, implementers and developers in the Compiere ERP/CRM project felt that the direction of this project was, in stark contrast to their ideals and its original course, changing rapidly in favour of the “Cathedral” business model. Hence the Adempiere project was born. The key component of this project is its Community base, which the project originators see as the most important difference between it and other similar business application projects. In order to develop and strengthen this community, the Adempiere project strives to make available all knowledge free in its own wiki. We belief that a large, diverse and well informed community will then result in high quality, stable, product that will allow implementers and vendors to confidently sell services around this product.

Hi Red1, here is my proposal. In the Introduction section, how about adding the Customer Relationship Management ("CRM") to the list: "..., and freely available industry suite of Enterprise Resource Planning ("ERP"), Supply Chain Management ("SCM"), Customer Relationship Management ("CRM") and Business ("Biz") applications."

Council Responsiblities Overlap That of Foundation

  • Now that Council's role is clearer as Founder rather than PMC, there are some of the points that Ramiro so thoughtfully drafted out IMHO as overlapping that of eventual Foundation. I like to suggest the ones below to be under the purview of the Foundation and not of Council
    • Approve and uphold the governance rules of the project
    • Legal representation of project corporate entities
    • Progress and endorse partnerships with commercial entities that support the principles and objectives of the project
  • And this one below shuld be the purview of the PMC
    • Define strategic direction of the project
