After you have installed one of the VMware's products get the AVA package. There is three kind of AVA packages which equal inside only packaging method differs. If you don't know which one to take and are using windows take the ava311-3.zip. I have never used WindowsXP but I have been told that unzipping is easier than in previous Windowses. See the links section for downloading AVA.

If you managed to extract that package somewhere on your harddrive you see that there is Adempiere3.1.1-3.vmx file. In windows and some Linuxes just doubleclick it. Another way is open VMplayer (there should be menu entry made by installer) and open that .vmx file using VMplayer's user interface. If my memory is not failing me again with VMplayer you only have to wait while AVA boots up (Nice blue bootsplashscreen should appear on the screen). If you are using vmware server you have to click that big green arrow on toolbar to boot up.

After some time you should get desktop with Adempiere and browser logo. Adempiere logo opens up Adempiere UI and browser gets you on Adempiere server's default page. If you are totally new with Adempiere and Compiere, but want to learn Adempiere you have couple options:

  1. Just learn by doing and ask questions on Adempiere irc (Hard way)
  2. Buy Compiere User Documetation from http://www.compiere.com for $50 (Costy way)
  3. Wait until sombody writes Adempiere User documentation (Lazy way)

Couple notes (Don't wory if you don't understand these):

  • Webstart does not work in AVA rev3 and 2
  • Root password is Bazaar
  • Defaultuser (Adempiere) has sudo rights.
  • Jboss is managed by /etc/init.d/jboss script
