Thomas Bayen

about me:

I was born 1971 and got my first C64 in '83. My soul was lost and I was a citizen of cyberspace from the beginning on...

I live in Krefeld, Germany.

I used my fist GNU Tools and an emacs clone about '90 on my Commodore Amiga. From this point I was committed to open source. In 1998 I installed my first Linux system. I'm one of the longest members of the Linux User Group Krefeld and the (now stalled) Perl Mongers Niederrhein. I am a sourceforge member since about 2001.

I studied "Beverage Economics" (Getränke-Betriebswirtschaft) in Munich and from then I worked in the trading company of my family. Today I am the business executive. In my free time (Ha!) I programmed in C, ARexx, Perl and in the last years mainly in Java.

I had much disputes with people wanting to sell me ERP software but wanting to keep my data or the structure of the data as their business secret. So I could never decide to buy some of these systems. From year to year I looked around for free alternatives. In 2011 I decided it is time to join the ADempiere community and try out what will happen!

What do I want to do in this wiki

general documentation

My first steps here will be to collect my remarks while installing ADempiere and playing around with it (at the beginning in german): TBayen/Anmerkungen.

If I find the time I would like to collect informations about TBayen/Installation with the target to get a better entrance for new Users (like I was until yesterday...). I have to do that before I loose that lost feeling I had some times.

After a talk with Redhuan D. Oon we both agreed that the german part of the Adempiere Website has to be much more inviting to new Users. Most matured Users seem not to mind about the shape of the Wiki entrance pages - but it is important for the project to attract new Citizens. (This is true for the english pages as well but we have to begin somewhere and german is my natural language...) At the moment of writing this I am a nebie so this is the right moment to contribute in this area. I will collect my thoughts on Verbesserung der deutschen Seiten.

To support the german documentation I found a nice (but old) german PDF about Compiere: http://steunenberg.wordpress.com/2007/04/23/download-compiere-fur-anfanger-verfugbar/

Perhaps I could contribute to the german pages in this Wiki to attract more german people to ADempiere. PErhaps even better I can attract people to do this work. Hi Thomas Thiessen! ;-)

Redhuan D. Oon proposed me to help translate the POS System and his documentation (https://sourceforge.net/projects/adempiere/files/openbravoPOS/).

special projects

what have I done so far

Today I wrote a long mail to Norbert Wessel because for becoming one of the Citizens I have to explain what I have contributed to the community. After ending a long list of links to my work I thought this might be interesting for others too. It's in german - sorry!
