This feature looks like it would become very useful. Something that I think would be handy is if a product can be searched for using the serial number as well. If this can be tied into RMA or something like that, life will be easier for those of us that are tracking hundreds of the same products. - Joseph Brower May 16 12:05 AM

Hi

This is a very interesting project. I just wanted to mention one functionality that should be an essential core that wasn't too clear to me from the text.

For many industries dealing in high value goods, each item of a certain product type will have a unique serial number, this includes: computers memory mobile phones aircraft spare parts etc...

for all these industries, simply tracking the 'quantity' of a product by a SKU barcode is insufficient, each item needs to be checked in and tracked individually for its entire lifecycle.

i.e.

Shipment 1 ->

             Model a
             Model b
             Model c ->
                        serial number c1
                        serial number c2
                        serial number c3
                        serial number c4

When checking a shipment in to the warehouse each item from a particular model has to be scanned in and stored individually (also note that the serial numbers are defined by the manufacturer and cannot be the simple serialisation available in the system currently). And the lifecycle of the product is tracked not by a simple 'quantity' but by the unique identifier of the serial number. So when the product is sold, each serial number is scanned out of the warehouse (and there should be the ability to scan out 1000s of individual serial numbers in one shipment for use by distribution companies). Each serial number should then be associated with a customer for CRM and RMA use...--hayder 03:29, 17 June 2007 (EDT)

This behaviour would perfectly fit our needs too. Is there a way to speed up development? --Jab doa 06:46, 2 July 2007 (EDT)
