Incorporatable into a PriceList Version?

  • Wonder if the PriceList Schema can be used for a Promotion Schema. Thought that was one of the purpose of the PriceList regime where special promotion discounts are given for certain product category and over a certain period in the form of a PriceList Version. Or is the proposed Promotion Module entirely different? Somehow feeling that the PriceList module shuld govern all functionality involving pricing. - Red1 00:07, 23 June 2007 (EDT)

OfBiz

Have you ever seen how Open for Business (OfBiz) handles the question of discounts & promotions? Using selections it allows you to define "if then" type structures...

if it's this customer group then less 5% ..
if it's this product type then add a product xyz

And you can combine them with AND and OR to get

IF it's between these dates AND the customer group is "this" AND the product type is widget THEN add the "free" widget.

They did this by creating their own simply Rules Engine which they called minilang, if my memory serves... the above IF THEN ELSE is a simply RE scenario. You'll be happy to hear I'm not proposing we write our own minilang as they did :) but Bahman has done some work on how to integerate an RE and an RE seems like an ideal solution for discounts & promotions. I could be simply or allow users could create any amount of complexity. I guess it all depends on much work it would be to really integrate and Bahman would be best place to offer advice, but from his wiki page I understood it would not be too difficult! --Croo 04:59, 23 June 2007 (EDT)
