What is the Web POS?

POS = Point of Sale.
Primarily used in a Retail Sales environment... think about the cash registers at your local stores.
Think of the Web POS as a web based program that provides the same functionality as a "Cash Register" or Till.

It's not part of the trunk, it's based on Posterita's implementation. They decided to go commercial and because
of this fact, they won't provide any updates, otherwise their commercial offering is not successful!
In addition it is English only and because it is not based on the Application Dictionary there is no way to customize it.

The Posterita is been integrated by Trifon, which resulted in some changes. So now been in trunk u can say that its forked back to the ADempiere project. This is a technical opinion, not a political one. It allows maintenance and enhancement on our own. - Red1 03:05, 30 May 2009 (PDT)
The older Java POS was enchanced by OpenXpertya, Spain. We maintained it a bit also. After going thru its codes, i say its easy to maintain. - Red1 16:21, 30 May 2009 (PDT)

What does it do?

It allows you to handle sales transactions AT the Point of Sale, i.e. while standing in front of the customer!

One important thing from an ADempiere point of view is that it creates a POS-Order which is an order that generates automaticly the shipping and invoice when it is completed. See Sales_Processes for a comparison of the different order types in ADempiere.

Why is it important?

Important for a retail companies.
Because it is browser based you do not need to install Adempiere locally but any system with a Web browser can be used.
In the real world though it would need a printer to print receipts (and in some countries print a audit trail via a paper tape), a Cash Drawer for the money collected, and perhaps second or third displays (??) to show the customer the value for example.

How does one use it from start to finish?

What screens and information are needed? etc. Thanks

lol - big question.
Actually I'm not sure; I set it up once to test but I've forgotten how! so I will leave that to someone who does.
