Our market niche

The enterprises that decide to use ADempiere internally are best described as "early adopters". They already have a robust IT department and feel comfortable with new technology and the risks (in operations and usability) it might bring along.

On the other hand, the large majority of enterprise customers are interested only in solving their own specific problems, and not in using cutting-edge technology. Besides, ADempiere has started lagging behind in technological features, due to the fact that Compiere (which ADempiere is based upon) was stagnant in its development for the last couple of years. Today, there is a large number of alternative ERP suites (both open source and proprietary) that deliver equal, or, in some cases, better functionality. The most usual advantage in functionality from proprietary ERP's is productization, while the most usual from open source ERP's is the UI (these are being pointed out in the Marketing and Competition section). These facts mean a small market and large competition, which gives considerable bargaining power to customers.
